Join our group of volunteers as we begin to organize a PTO for our school. We are looking to encourage interactions between our families and school, serve as a source of support, and work with the teachers, staff, and parishes to improve our students' educational and spiritual needs. The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm in the St. Joan of Arc room at SJA.
The PTO has a private facebook group for parents, which can be found here: Non-Staff STSJP PTO.
Please contact Kathy Seybert at [email protected] or [email protected] if you would like to help in any way.
When STSJP principal Nick Kanable called Kathy Seybert, mother of three students in the pastorate’s school, and asked her to consider starting a parent-teacher organization, she gladly accepted the challenge. “We are looking to encourage interaction between our families and school, serve as a source of support, and work with teachers, staff, and parishes to better meet the educational and spiritual needs of our students,” Seybert said, describing the goals of the PTO.
The group is “Making a Difference One Corporal Work of Mercy at a Time.” With the current restrictions in place due to Covid, the group has been focusing mostly on staff appreciation. “Our staff has been phenomenal during this pandemic,” Seybert said. “They have tackled many new situations that they never before had to deal with.” She said when the PTO talks about the staff, they mean more than just the teachers. “We include all support positions: maintenance, office, cafeteria, and parish staffs,” according to Seybert.
The whole staff received treats on Halloween, lunch before Thanksgiving break, and hot chocolate and Panera gift cards for Christmas. “We have provided breakfast foods in each building for those students who might come to school without eating,” Seybert added. Noting that STSJP School is the largest ministry within the Kokomo Catholic Community, Seybert said anyone is welcome to join the school’s PTO, adding that “many hands make light work.”
She encouraged people to join one of the group’s Facebook pages — STSJP PTO or Non-staff STSJP PTO. The group meets on the first Wednesday of every month at 6:00 pm in the St. Joan of Arc room at SJA. The group is looking for businesses and individuals who are willing to donate services or gifts as well. “Join us for a meeting and meet other parents trying to make a small difference,” Seybert said. “We are looking for ways to plan activities around the Corporal Works of Mercy.”
