Children at Sts. Joan of Arc & Patrick are the only students in Kokomo who benefit from...
It is easy for “those in charge” to point out the many blessings of the pastorate’s school and the benefit of a Catholic education. School and parish leaders can talk about academic successes, the solid and supportive faculty and staff, the history of the school — founded in 1874! — more. But perhaps the best group to share about the blessings of an education at STSJP would be the students. Some of the middle school students recently shared their thoughts.
“I love that in STSJP we are more than just teachers and students; we are a family,” seventh-grader Elyse said. “At STSJP you feel welcome no matter who you are.”
Eighth-grader Jackie agrees. “The teachers and kids here are so nice. The teachers here will help you out,” she said, adding that each class includes something about God in the lessons.
Koral, a sixth-grader, said, “I love how everyone gets along.” She values the Catholic education “because I can grow closer to God.”
According to sixth-grader Kendralyn, “I value my Catholic education because there are so many things that I wouldn’t have been able to learn at other schools.” She agrees that STSJP is like a big family. “You can feel comfortable just to talk with them,” she said. “Even the teachers!”
Multiple students mentioned being grateful for the opportunity to attend Mass with their schoolmates as well as the priest visits to the classrooms.
For Emily, a sixth-grader at STSJP, “I love that we get to go to Mass and the Stations of the Cross.” She is grateful that she gets to learn about God at school.
Eighth-grader Alek agrees. “The priests are fun and they teach us about God,” he said.
For sixth-grader Hutch, religion class is a bonus he wouldn’t get elsewhere. “I love the fact that we can learn religion because just going to church or Mass does not teach you as much about your religion as having religion class every day,” according to Hutch.
Esme, a sixth-grader, values her education at STSJP. “We learn more things at an early age than at another school,” adding that she also likes going to Mass with her classmates and friends.
