The SCRIP program has been a great program that many of you are familiar with over the past couple decades. When it was first created the SCRIP program had very large pay outs that created a large income for our school. However, over the years, many of the cards involved in the program have cut back what percentage comes back to the school from the sale. The Diocese has stopped encouraging SCRIP programs in general, though it might be worthwhile in a given parish.
Over the past couple years, we have looked at the cost-benefit analysis of our SCRIP program. This is not simply just a matter of income vs expense. It also includes the amount of volunteer hours involved and the amount of “income” that is wrapped up in the in stock cards kept around to sell immediately. I’ve heard some complain that there haven’t been sales at St. Patrick after Mass the way
there has been at St. Joan. The sales at St. Patrick after Mass were cut out before I arrived because those willing to volunteer were exhausted and several appeals for more volunteers had gone unheard.
However, even if we had a slew of volunteers – with the current state of the program – there would be little gain for the hours put into the program. The program at this point almost comes out as a wash between income and expenses.
In view of all of this, we are going to be sunsetting our SCRIP program. We want our volunteers to use their hours in what is most beneficial to the parishes and this program is no longer that answer. Thank you to all who have been involved over the years. You have helped immensely, and we look forward to your help in future endeavors. Thank you & God bless.
