STSJP Students "Walk A Mile"
STSJP Students, parents and staff joined others to brave the cold and gain a better understanding of what it can be like to be homeless in Kokomo. The group joined hundreds of others to participate in Kokomo Rescue Mission's annual "Walk A Mile in My Shoes" event, benefitting Open Arms Shelter. The group walked a mile through downtown Kokomo, and toured the Open Arms Shelter, which offers assistance to women and children. STSJP students sponsored the walkers with approximately $1,000 raised through Jar Wars during Catholic Schools Week.

STSJP Battle of the Books CHAMPIONS!

Congratulations to all the STSJP Middle School students who competed in the Kokomo/Howard County Battle of the Books on Saturday, Nov. 12.

Thirteen teams from Howard County Schools participated, including three teams from Sts. Joan of Arc & Patrick School.

For Battle of the Books, teams are given a list of 10 fiction and nonfiction books to read. During the competition, teams are asked questions about the books. Teams progress through three rounds of competition until a champion team is named.

This is STSJPs second year as Champion of the Battle. Thanks to all the students and their parents for their hard work.

Students representing the SAINTS in the Battle were: Michael Casas, Teresa Kennelly, Brandon Alexander, Hannah High, Olivia Peterson, Michaela Gibbs, Chloe Unrein, Taylor Frey, Nate Weber and Arland McIlrath, and the members of our first place team, Joe Richter, Kate Weber, John Lafleur and Grace Cameron.

Science Projects Make Learning A Hands-On Experience
STSJP students have created cells, solar systems and hurricane-proof houses in hands-on learning experiences.
Sixth graders recreated the solar system to better understand the planets in relationship to one another. Seventh grade replicated plant and animal cells to learn the parts of cells. Students presented their completed projects to their classes.
Fifth grade teams researched building practices before building their own hurricane-proof houses. The hurricane houses integrated math, science and social studies.  When the houses were complete, they battled "Hurricane Kanable" (Mr. Kanable armed with a power washer).
